Obama doesn't mind engorging the military industrial complex

The next way that the US defense industry is going to pillage public funds is via a Israeli missile-defense shield. I wonder how far the proposed $205 million would actually go in the region if it were used for actually helpful items like schools, hospitals, food (for the Palestinians, that is, who need them)...

US Using Viagra in Afghanistan to win over Warlords

The CIA and US military are using Viagra as a bribe to win over Afghani warlords. This is sick for a number of reasons, not the least of which is that taxpayer money is being used to perpetuate traditional Afghani cultures of polygamy, forced marriage and child rape. Awesome. Also see another Turley post on the subject of the plight of Afghani women.

Military news correspondants far from impartial

The New York Times reports that many former military officers that appear as commentators on news networks are not held to the same impartiality standards as other pundits. These analysts regularly had conflicts of interest, including lucrative government contracts for businesses that they were involved in. Furthermore, not towing the Pentagon's line would result in that commentator getting cut off from insider information in the future. As a result, these analysts opinions were almost always in line with the Pentagon's story, misleading the American people about the true nature of the news.

Gitmo soldiers editing Wikipedia... your tax dollars at work

It seems that at least one soldier at Guantanamo Bay was editing articles on Wikipedia and other sites that were dedicated to discussing Gitmo abuse. I feel great about paying for this guy to disseminate misinformation. The parallels to 1984's Ministry of Truth are quite apparent, as the New York Times article hammers home. The greatest part is the quote from an officer denying the whole thing... "THAT would be unethical." Unlike torture.
